Meet the Founders

Rashida & Lydia

Coffee N Tea Psychotherapy was born from a rich friendship and a shared passion for mental wellness. Our founders, both from the Caribbean, met during their university years and instantly connected over their love for helping others. This connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership, both personally and professionally, as they navigated their studies and later, their careers in psychotherapy.

Our founders bring a unique and heartfelt approach to therapy, meeting clients where they are mentally and helping them navigate the obstacles in their lives. They each have one child, which enriches their understanding of family dynamics and the challenges of balancing personal and professional lives.

Both of our therapists specialize in working with families and couples, providing compassionate guidance and support to help strengthen relationships and foster understanding. Their shared Caribbean heritage and experiences as parents allow them to connect deeply with clients from all walks of life.

Representation in therapeutic relationships is a cornerstone of Coffee N Tea Psychotherapy. Our founders understand that seeing oneself reflected in one's therapist can make a significant difference in the healing process. This belief inspired the creation of Coffee N Tea Psychotherapy, a practice dedicated to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care. Our Western education continues to enrich our lived experiences, allowing us to connect with and relate to a wide variety of people and cultures.

At Coffee N Tea Psychotherapy, we are committed to creating a welcoming space where all clients feel seen, heard, and understood. We invite you to join us on this journey of healing and growth, guided by two best friends who are as passionate about your well-being as they are about their own friendship.

Meet Rashida Gordon

Meet Rashida Gordon *

Welcome! My name is Rashida Gordon, and I understand how difficult it can be to feel "stuck" in life. I came to America at 9 years old with my parents and newly born brother, facing the challenges of adjusting to a new language, culture, and a nuclear family dynamic. Not knowing how to process my emotions led to anger, hostility, and aggression. While I excelled academically, my attitude often created barriers with others.

Fortunately, I received mentorship that helped me channel my anger into positive outlets, which sparked my passion for supporting families, promoting family reunification, and helping individuals develop emotional intelligence to become agents of their own lives. This path led me to the child welfare system, where I quickly learned that the bureaucracy and policy mandates often hindered my ability to truly connect with and support individuals.

In private practice, I found the freedom to meet clients where they are, creating personalized timelines and goals to navigate their therapy journey. This is where the work begins—returning agency to individuals who often feel like they are being told what to do, how to do it, and what they should be overcoming. My approach is rooted in creating a safe space where you can be vulnerable and explore the aspects of your life, relationships, and past that are holding you back.

I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and children to address behavioral patterns that lead to struggles, with a focus on building insight, motivation, and a sense of agency to create meaningful change. I don’t see people as problems, but rather as individuals with challenges—and challenges are temporary.

Let’s begin this journey together. Whether you're dealing with individual, family, or community stressors, I’m here to support you in discovering the best version of yourself. The hardest step is often recognizing that you're at a roadblock, but it’s also the first step toward healing and growth. Let's take it together.
